What is
the National Safe Kids Campaign?
The National Safe Kids Campaign shares the goal of all
childhood injury prevention activists in reducing child
death and disability resulting from unintentional injury.
The top five risk areas are: traffic injuries (passenger,
pedestrian, and bicyclist), fires and burns, drowning,
choking and poisoning, and falls.
What is
Safe Kids?
Safe Kids is a structured group of diverse local individuals
and organizations that join forces to implement a program to
reduce unintentional childhood injury in their communities.
There are now more than 160 State and Local Safe Kids coalitions in 46 states and the District of Columbia.
These community-based coalitions are at the heart of the
National Safe Kids Campaign. Sharing the common goal
of safer communities for children, the Coalitions are:
 |
targeting
injury problems that are prevalent in their communities;
|
 |
combining
resources of a wide variety of people and organizations,
including experienced injury prevention activists;
|
 |
planning
and implementing a multi-faceted strategy that combines
community action, public awareness, education,
engineering (technology), and public policy initiatives.
|
The purpose
of State and Local Safe Kids Coalitions is to bring about a
systematic ongoing community response to childhood injury.
What is
Cleveland County Safe Kids?
As the structure and activities for the Cleveland County
Safe Kids Coalition are being developed, we invite you
and/or your organization to join us. Activity in the
coalition will vary from member to member, but we do ask for
an ongoing and long-term commitment to join us in the goal
of preventing unintentional injuries to the children of
Cleveland County. The entire coalition of Cleveland
County Safe Kids will meet on a quarterly basis. In
the event you do not feel that you have the time to come to
quarterly meetings but would consider being a sponsor for a
Safe Kids event, please let us know your interest.
